A beautifully mature and complex Rioja, the 2016 Viña Real Rioja Gran Reserva Especial opens with aromas of dried cherry, plum and fig layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, leather and sweet spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and elegantly structured, combining mature red and dark fruit with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Nuances of vanilla, cocoa and earthy undertones unfold through the long, refined finish, reflecting its extended ageing in oak and bottle. Pairs well with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, game dishes and aged Manchego.
